This page provides some information about the contents of EduTech Wiki and how to explore it.
Alternatives to explore this wiki
(1) You may search this wiki. There exist two search mechanism:
- Google search (top left) gives good results, but Google is always a few days behind current changes. In addition their engine may miss a page.
- The built-in slow search is rather slow and not very good. However, it will find any word.
- Go will only search titles of entries
- Search finds words in pages
(2) You may browse the categories, e.g. use the categories box in the left side-bar, or use the large tree below, or scroll to the bottom of each page.
(3) You may watch out for "see also" links that usually appear on top of an entry.
(4) Some pages include extra navigation menus (top left).
(5) You may subscribe to the Atom or RSS feed for Daniel K. Schneider's wikilog/bliki.
Categories
EduTechWiki uses a folksonomic (i.e. "spontaneously" made) category system. Although once in a while we rename and reorganize categories. Categories can have subcategories. These subcategories may appear in several categories since we don't believe that educational technologies could be represented as a tree. In other words, categories constitute a hyperlinked network of tags, unlike the controlled vocabularies in libraries for example.
The category tree
Below is a forest of categories that you may explore.
Tag cloud
Here is a tag cloud of the same categories. Word size is proportional to entries. However a big tag doesn't mean that a given topic is more important. Some categories are organized into many smaller categories and therefore appear small ...
A provisional picture
The "picture" below shows some key areas of competencies (concepts, theories, methods, etc.) that an educational technologists should master.
- On top we put more general theory about learning and education
- In the middle we put operational fields and concepts
- At the bottom we put various sorts of methods and technologies
- Left is more conceptual, right is mor technical
Clicking on items will give you an entry point for reading (according to what your interests are). Probably, the future main entry points for exploratory reading in this wiki are towards the middle: i.e. various instructional design models, a (rewritten) page on educational technology, or various pedagogical scenarios.
- Psychology, e.g. Learning theory
- Category:Learning theories
- Category:Affect and motivation
- Pedagogical theory, Educational theory
- Category:Instructional theories, Category:Educational theories

Most popular pages until 2011
Probably not a real critera for you, i.e. I don't feel that the most popular pages are that good. In addition, this wiki also became a resource for people not interested by educational technology (e.g. typical Flash designers). Daniel K. Schneider 21:43, 28 June 2007 (MEST) :)
Since 2012 we no longer have reliable page counters since we use file caching.
