Welcome to EduTech Wiki!

We hope that you will contribute, in whichever way you like.

You will probably want to consult the help pages and have a look at the Editing rules.

We use strong anti-spamming measures. As soon you are known as a friendly contributor you will be moved to an "author group" that doesn't need to fill in captcha's for each edit. If I don't "see" you, just ask with a post on my discussion page.

Again, welcome!

thanx for your contribution -- Daniel K. Schneider (talk) 14:01, 12 April 2017 (CEST)

hi, I made you a member of the author group (no more captachas, saving in the visual editor without having to switch to wikicode)

- greetings ! Daniel

Computerized embroidery -- Daniel K. Schneider (talk) 17:30, 8 March 2018 (CET)

thanx for the nice conceptual addition (paradigms). I started translation this into french via google translate (and I will ask one of my students to go over it). fr:Broderie machine

I think that it probably would be a good idea to split the article intro three pieces some day.

  • A good quality overview (including your new piece) plus short high level principles on hardware, software etc.
  • A page with hardware (not necessarily good quality)
  • A page about various embroidery software (same kind as previous)

- greetings ! Daniel

There's a real need for technical descriptions of embroidery formats. Like specifically describe everything that goes into a DST format, to a sufficient degree to allow a person to write such a file. With a lot of collaboration and research this document ( https://github.com/frno7/libpes/wiki/PES-format ) came about, but I worry that it's way too obscure to find. I'm not sure how many people would care about the specific requirements and differences in .DST files or their punch card origins, or the minimum bits required to make a functional one. But, such information is needed somewhere and each major format would tend to require its own page. The best information out there is Embroidermodder source code, followed by a ~20 year old webpage produced by AOLPress software with mostly dead links ( http://www.achatina.de/sewing/main/TECHNICL.HTM ). If expanded in that way some of the information on the formats might well need to go with them. I can't see any other sites well suited to fill in this gap. Hello,

yes from the little I understand it is a major adventure to find information and to document. From have I understand there is indeed a real and important need to have technical information in a central and stable place. So far, you may be one of the only persons in open source who does have an understanding :)

I am not sure, however, if I understood your question right. Are you asking if it is a good idea to put this into this wiki ? Or do you ask for advice on some other place ? Or do you you think that I should make strong visible links to your work ?

  • This wiki should be fairly stable, but one can never tell with academic web site. I expect it to survive my retirement in two years, since we use the french sister site quite a lot with our students and I certainly will continue contributing.
  • Another, maybe more sustainable solution would be a wikibook at https://www.wikibooks.org/

Anyhow, sometimes in the next weeks I will reorganized embroidery contents (create more pages), e.g. one on embroidery formats that you then could edit if you like (of course, feel free to create any page you like).

Here's generally what I'm talking about. DST is a couple hours of work to pull together a few solid sources and explain how DST files work. Ideally it would also include sections with pseudocode for how to write a DST and how to read a DST. But, oddly enough, that is now the most complete and comprehensive explanation of the .DST format seemingly in existence. Though if there were a more stable and common and acceptable place for such technical information it would be nice. But, I don't know any somewhat common wiki for somewhat cryptic technical data. There's a few more formats that would properly get a page. PEC, PES, XXX, VIP, VP3, JEF, maybe HUS. The technical information for such things otherwise doesn't exist. OK, cool addition for this wiki :)

As said above, as soon as I finished some urgent stuff (i.e. grading term projects, etc.) I will organize all the embroidery pages into some more coherent whole so people also can find things by browsing. Linking pages also improves Google search rank...

- thanx and greetings !

Hi, I started reorganizing a bit and hopefully in a better way. I split the huge computerized embroidery page. I also added navigation menus to your embroidery format pages. I makes navigating easier I hope.

Also, feel free to kill stuff (even entire sections) in the embroidery format page. I wrote that after I bought my first embroidery machine and have no idea if it is accurate.

- greetings ! PS: I also will sometimes in the future reorganize information about threads and break up the Concepts of computerized embroidery
