Introduction
This Wiki is now almost 2 years old and links appear in other's web pages. According to my experience it does take about 2 years before people that maintain serious web pages (e.g. resources for teachers and researchers) start indexing a site.
This is a first quick attempt to identify some traces about edutechwiki. Need to add things ... - Daniel K. Schneider 15:42, 8 December 2007 (MET).
There are many more links of course, according to Google about 2000 links for 146 selected pages (you can't get more statistics). Most links are either junk pages (e.g. random crap put together by indexing engines living off google ads) or links in side boxes (e.g. blog rolls) that show up multiple times. As of dec 2007, there are probably about 1000 meaningful links, but that's a real rough guess.
- The Main Page is linked 774 times
- Learning theory 196 (but about 190 from the same site)
- Reflection 65
- List of web 2.0 applications 48
- Personal learning environment 39
- The big picture 42
- Flow theory 37
- Note taking 23
- Actionscript 3 19
- Backwards design 18
- Writing-to-learn 18
- AgentSheets 18
- Wiki 17
All in all, very few links (in particular if one eliminates the meaningless links). This is not a big surprise. Most people just get stuff from the web, and do not contribute. In scholar.google I only found 4 links, I expected a bit more.
Popularity
Page rank
Page rank (amount of people that visit a page) is really low for most entries and medium for some others. This is normal, edutech is not as popular as pop stars.
On links managers
- Dec 2007: On del.icio.us the main page was saved by 164 people as compared to the 40'000 for Wikipedia :)
- Note: looking at web server stats is meaningless, since most visitors are just various sorts of engines. One would need to filter these out.
Search hits
On December 8 2007, Google Webmaster Tools shows the following stats for the top search and click trough traffic.
- As you can see, several pages make it to Google's top 20 (and this table is not complete, I only can retrieve statistics for the top most volumes, i.e. less frequently accessed pages also may be found in top tens of google.). Topics searched are both conceptual and technical, i.e. the way I like to think ;)
- Madeline Hunter gets 23% of the traffic and is in the top 8, quite amazing for such a poor page. This query may show, however, that there is a great interest (probably from teachers) in simple and efficient direct instruction models. On the other hand there is also a different M.H. who writes fiction. Maybe she gets all the hits ...
- It's interesting to see that people from different places look at different things. These statistics are of course not totally reliable since some people (e.g. me) choose to use google.com instead of google.ch or whatever.
- A good thing is that people mostly find relevant things for them, maybe with the exception of people searching from google.ch ;)
- Some of our more recent Flash pages became popular and that is a bit scary. It means that there are not enough open document tutorials on Flash and also that I will have to watch out for server overload and spammers. Multimedia technology indeed is one of the most difficult topics to search on the web. There is an amazing amount of crap pages for simple topics such as clipart
- Note: Top query stats are different for the french version (no surprise, since its contents are not the same).
So here are two tables quickly made from a *.csv file (dec 8 2007). Warning: its long. It shows queries and query clicks from different locations.
Web searches according to Google
By google ranking we don't mean page rank, but the typical position the link would get in search results.

Pages and websites
Links in webpages are an indicator that a website becomes somewhat of a serious resource. Nowadays, casual users just google and maybe use private bookmarks or link managers.
Some pages
(sorry no table here, too many junk pages link to us, have to complete these some other day ...).
- Lost some respect for Wikipedia
- Mohamed Amine Chatti's ongoing research on Technology Enhanced Learning
- Flow
- Educational Wikis (Wikiversity)
- Instructional Design Models (Martin Ryder).
- ICT Research Summary.
Some resource pages
- Widget (Website of Marielle Lange, one of our top contributors).
- Educational Technology (Online Learning Lab)
- ITSCO Research Supports Technology Integration.
- DIGITAL INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN (DID) .. in some subpage.
Some blogs
- EdutechWiki (Institut für Medien und Bildungstechnologie).
- Learning Visions (Blog)
- EdTechDev (Blog)
This wiki used as reference in teaching
There are more links. Also, since the (regretful) emergence of e-learning platforms in higher education, one can't see most class syllabi anymore ...
- Pandora's Box: Immersive Learning Environments 101, a series of classes for the NMC Symposium on Creativity in Second Life.
- EDCI 6333. 270 Diversity Ideologies
About learning experiences using this wiki
For the moment (dec 2007) only two classes have been using this wiki for writing.
Sarah Guth's class

- Sarah Guth (2007). Wikis in Education: Public, Semi-Public, or Private - Which Is Best?, Online Educa Berlin News Portal, 13th International Conference on Technology Supported Learning and Tutoring. - “From an affective point of view, students generally expressed a preference for the more protected environment of the semi-public wiki. However, not only did their performance improve on the public one, but they, too, came to understand the benefits of a large user-base and writing for a worldwide community of users. One student saw writing on the semi-public wiki as good preparation for EduTech: "It made me think of the driving lessons one takes before getting a driving license"”.
- Student views (some)
- Buzz, Erica (2007). EduTech Wiki, The Blogsphere and I (blog). “[...] contributing to EduTech Wiki is a good way to make students more responsible and aware of what they are writing. Here anyone can access the pages and contribute to them, while last semester this didn't happen. Writing for a public audience helps us improving our languages, our style and- as in this case- our content (in the sense that maybe we are more careful in looking for sources, links, information and in deciding which of them are more reliable than the other ones).”
