1 Introduction

“The Motivation and Self-regulation towards Technology Learning (MSRTL) instrument was developed based on the previous instruments measuring students’ motivation and self-regulation towards science learning. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were utilized to investigate the structure of the items. Cronbach’s alpha was applied for measuring the internal consistency of each scale.” (Liou & Kuo, 2014) [1])

2 The items (sorted by factors)[1]

Factor 1: Technology learning self-efficacy (alpha = .91)

1. Whether the technology content is difficult or easy, I am sure that I can understand it
2. When I am being taught technology, I can understand the concepts very well
3. Technology topics are easy for me
4. I usually do well in technology
5. I can complete difficult work if I try

Factor 2: Technology learning value (alpha = .88)

6. I think that learning technology is important because I can use it in my daily life
7. I think that learning technology is important because it stimulates my thinking
8. In technology, I think that it is important to learn how to solve problems
9. In technology, I think it is important to participate in inquiry activities
10. It is important to have the opportunity to satisfy my own curiosity when learning technology

Factor 3: Technology active learning strategies (alpha = .90)

11. When learning new technology concepts, I attempt to understand them
12. When learning new technology concepts, I attempt to connect them to my previous experiences
13. When learning new technology concepts, I would try to search for related information for comprehension
14. When I do not understand a technology concept, I would discuss with the teacher or other students to clarify my understanding
15. During the learning technology processes, I attempt to make connections between the concepts that I have learned
16. When I face the obstacle of applying technology, I would try to figure out the factors of the problems
17. When I meet technology concepts that I do not understand, I still try to learn them
18. When new technology concepts that I have learned conflict with my previous understanding, I try to distinguish the differences

Factor 4: Technology learning environment stimulation (alpha = .83)

19. I am willing to participate in this technology course because the content of the textbook is vivid and varied
20. I am willing to participate in this technology course because the teacher uses a variety of teaching methods
21. I am willing to participate in this technology course because the teacher does not put a lot of pressure on me
22. I am willing to participate in this technology course because the teacher pays attention to me
23. I am willing to participate in this technology course because it is challenging
24. I am willing to participate in this technology course because the students are involved in discussions

Factor 5: Technology learning goal-orientation (alpha = .91)

25. One of my goals is to learn as much technology knowledge as I can
26. One of my goals is to learn new technology content
27. One of my goals is to master new technology skills
28. It is important that I understand my technology course
29. It is important for me to learn the technology content that is taught
30. It is important to me that I improve my technology skills
31. Understanding technology ideas is important to me

Factor 6: Technology learning self-regulation-triggering (alpha = .86)

32. Even when technology tasks are uninteresting, I keep working
33. I work hard in the technology course, even if I do not like what I am doing
34. I continue working in technology even if there are better things to do

Factor 7: Technology learning self-regulation-implementing (alpha = .89)

35. I concentrate on the technology course, so that I will not miss important points
36. I finish my technology work and assignments on time
37. I do not give up even when the technology work is difficult
38. I concentrate in technology class
39. I keep working until I finish what I am supposed to do in technology class
