Born Durban, South Africa in 1939. Graduated from Natal University, Durban (Physics, Pure Maths, Applied Maths) in 1960. Soldier and Teacher at first; then lifelong commercial and mathematical programmer, analyst, team leader and manager. Total of 47 continuous years in the IT industry, most as freelance contractor. Started as machine-code programmer on ICT 1300 series in 1965; finished as Senior Tech Business Analyst (Insurance Billing SME) with Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Sydney 2005-2009 and Senior Data Analyst (Network Technology) with TELSTRA, Sydney til Christmas 2011, when I retired. Highest positions achieved are: 1. Team Manager Software Delivery (Council & Business Rates Packages to 250 sites) ICL/Fujitsu Local Govt Services,Reading,UK 1989-1990, [10 staff]; 2. Team Manager Maintenance & Enhancement, Mainframe Systems (Life & Risk Insurance, Super Funds) Colonial Mutual Life Assurance, Melbourne, OZ 1996-2000, [30 staff]; 3. Team Manager/Project Manager, non-fail 24/7 Mainframe Support (Telecoms WholeSale Billing + major enhancement) Vodafone Australia, Sydney, OZ 2001 [9 staff]; 4. Senior Tech Analyst & Subject Matter Expert (Insurance Billing, Statements, Letters) on 3 consecutive migrations from Fujitsu 3980 to IBM AS400.
