Information and Communication Technology(ICT)

Nwachukwu (2004), Information and communication technologies (ICTs) is the application of computers and other technologies to the acquisition, organization, storage, retrieval, and dissemination of information. However, in this context, information and communication technology is the use of electronic devices such as computers, telephones, internet, and satellite system, to store, retrieve and disseminate information in the form of data, text image and others.

Role of ICT in Education

ICT plays a large role in people's lives, it is critical to integrate it in education to complement, enrich and transform education for the better.

Teaching and Learning

Teachers at all levels of school make extensive use of ICT to rely knowledge and information to learners. Many schools include computer instruction as part of their mandated curriculum. In order for technology to be successfully incorporated into the curriculum, four learning components are required; active involvement, participation in groups, regular contact and feedback, and linkage to real-world experts are the four components, according to the [1] When correctly incorporated into classroom instruction and curriculum, technology accommodates students' various learning styles and skills, resulting in a varied and more successful learning experience.

Learning Motivation

Classroom teaching is enhanced using technology, and boring classes can be turned into engaging, fun-filled and inspiring learning experiences. Students' attention is captured and maintained using color, moving visuals, and music.

Accessibility

Students and teachers gain additional knowledge sources thanks to mobile devices that use information and communication technologies, making studying practically anything more accessible. ICT has made the world a global village and students collaborate with their classmates in the classroom and across the world by connecting to information and people on the internet, resulting in a more engaging and rich learning experience.

Organization

Schools have saved monies through the use of digital ink which, has made significant advancement in information technology while also making job completion easier for teachers and students. Rather than using a paper grade books, teachers can now submit grades and assignment modifications online. Libraries that use a digital database instead of a traditional card catalog allow students to search their resources from anywhere with an Internet connection. Teaching personnel also utilize a digital file system to rapidly discover and share transcript information and other data, saving time and paper.

Learning Environment

The widespread usage of ICT has made a substantial contribution to the improvement of learning circumstances. Students who previously used pens and pencils to complete their papers before the arrival of computers had difficulty making revisions. Because of the scribbling, the work in some cases turned out to be sloppy making teachers dissatisfied and students suffered academic setbacks as a result. Students are now using computers to prepare their assignments in a well-organized manner while teachers are putting proper assessment methods into practice and assessing students' academic achievement.
