Definition

Definitions of tutoring vary in scope. In a narrow sense tutoring refers to helping learnings with a given a learning task, in a wider sense it refers to all aspects of computer-mediated communication in which teachers, tutors, etc. engage.

In the context of e-learning, Seufert & Euler (2005) distinguish between e-tutoring, e-moderation and e-coaching. E-tutoring refers to helping students with exercises, e-moderation refers to organizing on-line group work, and e-coaching refers to coach students in more project-oriented designs.
