Margaret holds a Master’s of Arts Degree (Rural Sociology and Community Development)from the University of Nairobi [1] and Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Moi University [2]. She has over 15 years’ experience working in the education and child safeguarding sectors. Margaret has expansive skills working in humanitarian and development sectors and has worked closely and in collaboration with Ministry of Education and Teachers Service Commission officials in ensuring government priorities as captured in SGD 4 of ensuring access, retention and transition of learners are achieved. She has apt mobilization, negotiation, networking and collaboration skills which are evident in the many ways she is able to engage different players, including partners in areas of interest. She is a good planner, is result oriented with good analytical and interpersonal skills. Under child safeguarding and protection, Margaret has great experience in designing and implementing programs that ensure children and vulnerable adults’ rights are safeguarded. At the organization level, she is the child and gender safeguarding focal point. Margaret effectively represents her organization in many network forums and meetings such as in the Education in Emergency working (EiE) group meetings, Child Protection in Emergency(CPiE) and is trained in Child Protection in Emergency. Currently she is undergoing a training in Digital Literacy in Emergency with the University of Geneva.


Module 4: Open Education in Emergencies: Comparative and International Perspectives Module 4 Design-Margaret

Overall Objective-To become familiar with Open Education Resources

Activity 1 Learning outcomes: 1. Present the 5R characteristics of OER in my own words 2. Describe the different Creative Commons (CC) licences and their specificities 3. Discuss the relationships between the 5R and CC licences with the backdrop of given resources Detailed description: • Explore the different resources with regard to CC and the 5R and take the quiz • Consult the backdrop resources • Write a report on the possibilities of using CC licences (which of the CC licenses is best suited to my context) or other Open licences for educational purposes in my context Activity 2 Learning outcome: 1. Find OERs 2. Evaluate the quality of OERs Detailed description: • From activities completed previously in the CAS or for a topic of my choice, browse different OER archives (list available from the resources) to find relevant OERs • Use the google advanced search tool and the x5gon search tool to find relevant OERs • Orally, evaluate identified resources with criteria from the template given in the resources • Choose 5 OERs that are really relevant for my context and evaluate them thoroughly, selecting most appropriate criteria from the template given in the resources and fill out the excel table (available from the resources) • Write a reflexive report on how i went about to complete this task – if I wish, I can use the template with guiding questions available from the resources
