Definition
A Links managers or link manager or link management tool allows to manage web links.
Typically, a user can submit web links that can be classified into categories and sub categories, for which a small description is asked. More powerful engines allow link aliases. Links can be searched, viewed by category and submission date. Ratings (automatic or by users) and annotation functionality can exist.
Tools
There are several kinds of systems
- Browser-based tools (e.g. the bookmarking tool or more sophisticated systems like Zotero
- Stand-alone portalware to install
- Modules and extensions for various portalware (including learning management systems)
- Online services, in particular so-called social bookmarking services.
