Defininition
Awareness is an understanding of the activities of others, which provides a context for your own activity. An awaress tool scaffolds awareness.
Kinds of tools
There are several kinds:
WYSIWIS tools
- WYSIYITYS: What you see is what I think you see" is a property that can help technology support realtime interaction between physically separated users. The WYSIWITYS property is a natural consequence of adhering to a physical world metaphor.
- WYSIWIS: What you see is what I see. This is more constrained symmetrical version of WYSIYITYS.
Portal tools
I will add some stuff we did in our C3MS projects. You may in the mean time read the awareness article, that is much more complete - DSchneider 19:05, 12 May 2006 (MEST)
