Readers / Users

Unless otherwise stated in individual pages, contents of this Wiki (Edutech Wiki) are available under the Attribution Non-commercial Share Alike (by-nc-sa) licence.

In short, this means you are free:

  • to copy, distribute, display, and perform the work
  • to make derivative works

Under the following conditions:

By.png Attribution: You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (see citation method below)

Nc.png Noncommercial: You may not use this work for commercial purposes.

Sa.png Share Alike: If you alter, transform, or build upon this work, you may distribute the resulting work only under a license identical to this one.

Citation method

  • Use any reasonable method you like. If an article is explicitly signed by authors, you also are invited to cite the authors (sorry, this is a bit of extra work).
  • To make citations easy: Click on "Cite this article" link that appears in the toolbox menu to the left when you read a standard article. It will provide you with a series of possible citation styles and in addition a link to the precise version of the page. Of course, you also may just point to the generic version of a page ...

Copyright modifications

Some articles may include a different copyright. It may be less or more restrictive than our default copyright. Examples:

  • We do have special permission to reproduce some copyrighted materials here, in particular some graphics. In this case, you are not allowed to redistribute these.
  • We also use large portions of open contents from other sources in some articles. In that case, additional and/or overriding copyrights are added, usually at the bottom of theses articles.

Special rights granted to PediaPress

On May 3 we installed the collection extension by http://pediapress.com/. You can order printed "books" from Pediapress - Daniel K. Schneider 5 May 2009.

Pediapress is authorized to sell books generated from this wiki under the following conditions:

  • Pediapress may copy, distribute and sell wiki-books made from Edutech Wiki
  • Pediapress may not alter, transform, or build upon the contents of these wiki-books.
  • Pediapress must include the original license in the wiki-books, i.e. Attribution Non-commercial Share Alike (by-nc-sa) by default. Some pages may include manually inserted copyright statements. It is the wiki user's (and not Pediapress') responsibility to insure that none of these are violated.

Explanation: Pediapress will make some money with these books, which is perfectly acceptable since we get the code in exchange and since it donates 10% to Wikipedia. However, we would like to retain our copyright scheme in the resulting wiki books. It is more restrictive than Wikipedia's, e.g. contents must be attributed and no money can made from it unless we grant a waiver like this one. Copyright inclusion is btw. automatically done by the mw-render engine.

Authors and Intellectual Property Rights Policy

Important notice for authors external to TECFA:

You can sign your contributions (see the help:editing rules). Ideally, we would like the Wiki to insert author names automatically, but for now - if you wish to be known as author of an article - you have to insert your name (and affiliation) manually on top of your article or section. You also can add a <pageby/> tag like here.

Daniel K. Schneider reserves the right to use entries for other purposes unless there is a special copyright on those parts. E.g. I produced a study book and reused some wiki contents in modified form. You certainly will be cited if we can identify your contribution. In other words, by default, you grant the owners of this wiki a simple attribution license. If you wish to contribute under different "open content" conditions, create a new article and insert your own copyright scheme on top or at the end of the article, i.e. make it stronger or weaker. See the open content article for various kinds of copyrights.

See also our Privacy policy which is not the same as on Wikipedia (i.e. we require authors to have a login and in addition a reasonable way of "real world" identification if you wish to be cited for any contribution).
