Definition

The International Standard Book Number (ISBN) is a unique numerical book identifier. Today there exist two versions, a 10-digit and a 13 digit one.

Tools

There doesn't seem to exist a simple end-user tool that let's you scan the ISBN barcode of your books and then produces a bibliography :(

  • BookSources is a Wikipedia service to search for multiple sources for a book given the ISBN number.
  • Ottobib will produce a reference from a ISBN (you can choose from several formats).
  • ISBNdb.com. a database of books providing on-line and remote research tools for individuals, book stores, librarians, scientists, etc.
