- On page 142 you say that human evolution is constantly evolving. How are we evolving right now?
- How is it possible that we adapted better to the environments than the others hominin species?
- On page 135, you mentioned " Although people around the world come in many different sizes, shapes, and skin colours, with many cultural differences, we undoubtedly all belong to the one species, Homo Sapiens" Assuming that, can't we say that all the extinct hominins from the human lineage are " people around the world come in many different sizes, shapes and skin colours" and that they all belong to the same species Homo Sapiens?
- Why do you think the homo sapiens turned to monogamy in recent history? What is its evolutionary significance?
- How did we end up with the brain to body ratio of the homo sapiens?
- On page 144, you showed a map of the migration of different species, besides the dates of fossils in the same sites, how are you sure that those species actually migrated?
- How did you deduct the burial rituals just from seeing the fossils (p. 140)?
- On page 149, why did you say that Homo erectus gave raise to Homo sapiens? Is true to say that one species gave raise to another one?
- Do you think that one day there will be a new homonin that will be more adapted to our new climate?
Chap_6 Final questions
- On page 142 you say that humans are constantly evolving. How are we evolving right now? How would you define the fact that we are evolving?
- In class, we were told that we always have to put a species at the top of the branches in a phylogenic tree. However, on page 149, why do you mention that Homo erectus gave raise to Homo sapiens? Is it true to say that one species gives raise to another one?
- On page 135, you mentioned "Although people around the world come in many different sizes, shapes, and skin colours, with many cultural differences, we undoubtedly all belong to the one species, Homo sapiens". This shows that despite a important variation among individuals, they still all belong to the same species. How do scientists take into account a certain amount of variation in extinct hominin species in order to classify these individuals?
- Do you think that one day Homo sapiens would be extinct and a new hominin species that would be more adapted to the new environment would live on Earth?
