Discussion:WEIT 2012 Chap6
"Or it is possible that females choose flamboyant males on the basis that their sons will have an increased chance of being selected by females"
"Males can father many offspring because they continuously produce sperm in great quantity"
Example of exception in Mormon crickets: Male gives sperm AND nutrition to the female in order to help her develop her eggs. This spermatophore represent almost 30% of the male's weight. Here it is then the male who choose the female. He chooses the heavier female because she has more eggs.
"Sometimes sperm competition occurs between the sperm of different males if females mates with multiple males"..."sperm that hook themselves together to swim more rapidly"
altricial and precocial offspring.
