Items of the Integrated Measure of Intercultural Sensitivity and Their Relevant Subscales by Weiss (2012) [1] as presented by Pobog-Jaworowski (2014:9)[2]


General Culture Awareness - GCA:

1. Cultural differences do not play an important role, considering that people are biologically basically the same. (r) Subscale

2 Cultural differences do not play an important role during daily interactions. (r)

3 There will be no difficulties during cultural encounters, as long as you know the customs and practices of other cultures. (r)

4 No matter what culture they belong to, all humans are the same, deep within themselves. (r)

5 If one has a good knowledge of the local language, one does not have problems getting along in a foreign culture. (r)

6 One should emphasize what people of different cultures have in common, rather than focusing on the differences. (r)

Self Cultural Awareness - CA:

7 The culture of my country of origin shapes a part of my identity.

8 The way I act and think is influenced by the culture of my country of origin.

9 I do not have a strong link to my country of origin. (r)

10 The culture of my country of origin has strongly influenced the development of my personality.

Cultural Openness - CO

11 I am interested in foreign cultures and their customs and traditions

12 I enjoy observing people from other cultures in order to develop an understanding of the meaning of their behaviors

13 I think it is exhausting to deal with the values and norms of a foreign culture. (r)

14 For me cultural differences make living with other people interesting. CO

Cultural Relativism - CR

15 Considering out values, customs, and traditions, one notices that we are way ahead of other cultures.

16 When comparing cultures, some are better than others. (r)

17 Some cultures are superior to others. (r)

18 When dealing with other cultures, it is important to be aware of one’s own views and values in order not to forget what is right. (r)
