Dans "Second life" il existe des activités pédagogiques et des environnements d'apprentissage (à documenter un jour).

Installation utilisation

Prérequis hardware et OS

Il faut avoir une carte 3D (par exemple une nVidia GeForce 2, GeForce 4 MX ou mieux).

Des clients Second life existent pour Win, Mac and Linux

Installation

Réglages

Second life s'adapte automatiquement aux capacités de votre carte graphique, mais vous pouvez aussi manuellement régler des paramètres:

Edit->Preferences->Graphics cliquer sur la "custom box"

Mettez tout aux maximum si vous avez une carte de haut niveau et une connexion rapide (comme au travail).

Vous pouvez choisir la langue de l'interface dans Edition->Préférences, Général. Le français est en béta (May 2009).

Votre propre terrain

Les institutions pédagogiques payent moins. En août 2008:

  • Private space island: setup = $700, monthly fee = 147.50 / month
  • Open access island: setup = $175, monthly fee = $37.50/month

Sinon, on peut louer un petit terrain sur le "main land". Par exemple

  • 1/128 region (512 sqm) = $5/month
  • 1/64 region (1024 sqm) = $8/month etc.

On peut également acheter du construite. Voir le auction system.

Chercher des endroits avec les SLURLs

Un fois connecté à second life, on ne trouve rien et il ne se passe rien. Pour y remédier il faut consulter des sources externes.

Les SLURLs sont des liens téleportables vers des endroits. SLURL veut dire location-based linking in second life.

Essayez de trouver qc. d'intéressant dans le Second Life Education Wiki.

Syntaxe d'un SLURL

http://slurl.com/secondlife/<region>/<x-coordinate>/<y-coordinate>/<z-coordinate>/

Exemple (la "Sistine Chapel of Vassar"):

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Vassar/200/85/27

Si votre client est bien installé, il suffit d'entre le SLURL dans votre navigateur normal. Il vous montre une sorte de "Google Map", qui vous permet de vous téléporter.

Note for Linux users: Ouvrez le Second life help dans le client Second life client (F1). Cela ouvre le navigateur web internet ou vous pouvez coller le SLURL....

On peut cusomiser un SLURL, en ajoutant une image, e.g. http://slurl.com/secondlife/<region><x/y/z>?img=http://yourdomain/pict.jpg&title=Your title&msg=Your message

Trouve qc. avec l'outil map (carte)

Cliquez sur Map en bas du client. Vous pouvez entrer des mots clef pour trouver un endroit.
